Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi explained the reason for spreading Guang Huan Mi Zong with compassion:
The Dharma Vanishing Era is a time plagued with epidemics and diseases. Human minds are chaotic, and thoughts are often confused. There are few real Dharma seekers, and there are few who really know how to request the Dharma. Therefore, under such circumstances, Mahavairocana Buddha revealed the Dharma to heal the sick and enlighten sentient beings. Following the requirements of Mahavairocana Buddha and this Dharma, Ziguang Shang Shi has acted out of compassion and for the convenience of all beings—to care for them and help them establish the Bodhi heart. Guang Huan Mi Zong has done so, Ziguang Shang Shi has done so, and so have the disciples.
The origin of Guang Huan Mi Zong can be traced back to ancient times, deriving from the Great Sun Tathagata. The Dharma of Guang Huan Mi Zong originated with the Great Sun Tathagata. Likewise, Ziguang Shang Shi's heart of compassion can also be traced back to antiquity. Out of his great compassion, Shakyamuni Buddha renounced power and wealth, entering the path of cultivation and Dharma teaching. Throughout his long journey of preaching the Dharma, the Buddha endured great hardship. Through his compassion and tireless diligence, he attained Achievement. In turn, his disciples also cultivated and inherited compassion.
One who possesses compassion has a profound origin. All of Shakyamuni Buddha's 1,250 disciples had the heart of compassion, the wish to save beings, and the resolve to heal their afflictions—especially those who attained Achievement, the Bodhisattvas and Arhats. Therefore, Shakyamuni Buddha instructed them to be reborn in various places, taking up different professions and identities, to spread the Dharma.
The Buddha's Dharma is the path of deliverance, meant to guide and save sentient beings. In spreading the Dharma, one should not consider personal gain or loss, for the self does not exist.
