Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi explained how “affinity” is connected to one’s journey to the Buddha Land for cultivation:
The appearance of Guang Huan Mi Zong and the arrival of Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi with his disciples all have their own causes and reasons rooted in affinity. Why is that? Because this connection of affinity was established ages ago. This affinity is not just an ordinary relationship. Those who have come here are connected through this affinity; those who have not yet come are still waiting for it to be established.
Anyone who was connected in past lives can meet again in this life. The timing and duration of such meetings depend on your own karmic timeline, not on the time of the Space Realm. How old are you when you come here? Some children arrive at nine or thirteen—they are young and come early. For those who come in their sixties or seventies, it is a little late, but even if it’s late, it’s still better than not coming at all. Those who never come in this life will not have their affinity connected, and it will be even more difficult in the next life. Thus, their past cultivation may fade or diminish.
A person who has lived from ancient times until now has certainly engaged in cultivation. Do not think that you have never practiced before—you have simply forgotten. How could one have survived in the primitive world without cultivation? It would have been impossible. Although the methods of cultivation differ, one has survived through various forms of practice. Human wisdom, too, varies—some are more developed, others less so. To elevate your wisdom to a higher level, diligent effort is essential.
