During the consecration ceremony, Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi delivered a teaching on how to reduce bad karma:
The Zhongyuan Festival (also known as the Ghost Festival) is a significant day for beings in both the Yin and Yang realms. We hold this Dharma assembly to bless the living and to deliver the departed. For those in the Yang realm—the living—it brings blessings of health and longevity they rightfully deserve. For those in the Yin realm—the deceased—it helps reduce their suffering and grants them the opportunity for rebirth.
Confession is a compassionate opportunity offered by Dizang (Ksitigarbha) Bodhisattva. How can one reflect upon oneself and perfect one’s merits in this human world, the Yang realm? By refraining from creating more bad karma, performing good deeds, and speaking kind words.
No matter who you are—whether a heavenly king, a high official, or a member of royalty—if you have created bad karma, you must repent. All beings are equally subject to the universal law of cause and effect.
