Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi explicated the essence of Guang Huan Mi Zong Esoteric Dharma:

Guang Huan Mi Zong is the representation of Buddhas, the manifestation of Immeasurable Light Buddha. In the Space Realm, all Buddhas' Achievement and all Bodhisattvas' Achievement have to go through the cultivation of Buddhas' Dharma, the cultivation of Esoteric Dharma. What is Esoteric Dharma? The essence of Dharma, i.e. the quintessence of the teachings.

Guang Huan Mi Zong Dharma is the essence of Dharma, the quintessence of the teachings. It spreads to the saha world through Ziguang Shang Shi's words. Guang Huan Mi Zong Dharma is the Esoteric Dharma, which represents Immeasurable Light Buddhas, the essence of all Buddhas in three thousand galaxies, also known as the heart of Dharma.

For the beings in the saha world, how to build an affinity with Immeasurable Light Buddha? Through Guang Huan Mi Zong Esoteric Dharma. Some people can tune into the channel of message when doing some meditation or spiritual practice. Those who connect to the message at some moment do have the Affinity with Immeasurable Light Buddha and the Affinity with Guang Huan Mi Zong. When they see some ads accidentally, or read some news unexpectedly, they connect to that message and then form the intent to learn the Dharma.

In Sakyamuni Buddha's era 2,500 years ago, people had to rely on connecting to the message, even though the word "message" have not yet existed. We did not learned about this word until the '60s or the '70s. Thus, language has brought developmental leap to Buddhism.

What's the function of mantras? It is to connect to the message. What kind of message you can connect to depends on what kind of mantra you chant. Does it mean connecting to all messages by chanting one single mantra? No. Each mantra has its function; each word has its function; each sound has its function. The sound matters; the voice also matters. These are the secrets within the secret, which would not be revealed to the outside world and can only be transmitted from a master to a disciple. Many of these are decided by heaven, earth, or human beings, or determined by how deep the Affinity is.
