The Path of Renouncing Secularity, Enacting Vows, and Spreading the Dharma
Shakyamuni Buddha's Path of Renouncing Secularity, Enacting Vows, and Spreading the Dharma

Holy Master Ziguang Shang Shi delivered a discourse on the Buddha's Birthday:

To celebrate is to commemorate—to honor Shakyamuni Buddha and to reflect upon whether we have followed the venerable Buddha's path and continue to walk upon it.

On this path, we should envision Shakyamuni Buddha walking ahead of us, a little farther in the distance. He is walking—have you followed Him? Have you strayed from the path? Have you perceived the Buddha's illumination, or have you turned away and looked back? It is vital to discern whether anyone has fallen behind, whether all are following closely, or whether some have given up.

We do not honor the Buddha merely on the surface; bathing the statue of the Infant Buddha is but a formality. More importantly, how can our preachers and instructors follow His footsteps more closely—walking the Buddha's path of renouncing secularity, the path of enacting vows, and the path of spreading the Dharma, as He did over 2,500 years ago?
